A quick visit to the local neighborhood bookstore will reveal a plethora of volumes regarding just about any musician or band one cares to learn more about. Most of these books are unauthorized and therefore suffer from the subject’s nonparticipation. Often, these unauthorized tomes are derided in interviews by the very bands they cover. Occasionally, the odd authorized project will surface. As a result, these band-sanctioned books are often unsatisfactory since most artists would understandably want to whitewash the more unsavory aspects of their lives.

Reclusive rock band Rush have authorized Canadian rock critic Martin Popoff to pen Contents Under Pressure in commemoration of their 30th anniversary.

Subtitled 30 Years Of RUSH At Home & Away, this book is not a definitive biography of the band and its members. Rather, it is an exploration of the band’s live and recorded output throughout its career. As the band has always kept their personal lives very private it is unlikely that there will be an official in depth memoir.
