Two former child actors formed Rilo Kiley in 1998. Blake Sennett was a performer on the kids show Salute Your Shorts and Jenny Lewis’ lengthy resume includes Troop Beverly Hills with Shelley Long and The Wizard with Fred Savage. The duo played together acoustically for about three years before forming the band with bassist Pierre de Reeder and drummer Dave Rock. After a couple of early EPs in 1999, this lineup released Rilo Kiley’s full length debut CD Take Offs And Landings in 2001. Jason Boesel took over the drum duties, thus completing the band’s current lineup, still intact after three years. Their second CD, The Execution Of All Things, was released in 2002 and reflects their live sound more accurately than their previous effort. After some flirtation with major labels, More Adventurous was self-released in August 2004 to critical acclaim.

“You weren’t there when we played Baton Rouge. Where were you? This is a real treat,” says Sennett, referring to the band’s less than stellar turnout at their last Louisiana performance. The concert at New Orleans’ Howlin’ Wolf is well attended for a Wednesday night.
