Rather
than providing a blow by blow account of each and every song and gig,
Mason provides a personal recollective narrative that
gives the feeling of being part of the trials and tribulations of being
in a band the magnitude of Pink Floyd, from recording
an album to staging a huge stadium mega tour. Hardcore Floyd
fanatics may lament the dearth of minutiae concerning the recording sessions
but this book, taking into account the length of time chronicled, would
have had to be a multi-volume work. It’s nice to know that the other
members of the Floyd (Waters, Gilmour,
and Rick Wright) were each given a pre publication copy
of the manuscript and each turned in their suggested revisions and corrections.
Mason may have regretted this decision because both Waters
and Gilmour returned their copies extensively annotated
with green highlighter. |
