The
third disc of the box set consists of duets and tracks Ozzy recorded
with other artists or for television shows and movies. Close My Eyes
Forever, Ozzy’s duet with Lita Ford and perhaps
his most famous collaboration, is conspicuously absent. Ozzy states
in his liner notes that he could have easily assembled a second disc of
songs like these but thought that might have been overkill. What is here
are tracks recorded with Type O Negative, Motorhead, and Miss
Piggy (No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you!), among others. Some
of these cuts team Ozzy with more “modern” rock bands,
such as Primus and Infectious Grooves (in which Ozzy
first collaborates with future bassist – and eventual Metallica
member – Robert Trujillo). One cut, Psycho Man, brings
the Ozzman full circle by reuniting the original members of Black
Sabbath for a tune from their Reunion album. There are a few
ill advised forays into rap collaboration included here, as well as an atrocious
early 80s team up with Was (Not Was) that was perhaps better left
forgotten. This disc features mostly cover songs and perhaps the most interesting
is Ozzy’s legendary previously unreleased collaboration with
Dweezil Zappa on the Bee Gees classic Stayin’ Alive.
This track was not released, for whatever reason; Dweezil ended up
removing Ozzy’s vocals, replacing the synths with electric
guitar, and enlisting Donny Osmond to sing lead, resulting in an
equally as interesting track. |
