Harrison
should be credited with introducing the sitar into Western musical culture
when he utilized the instrument during the recording of Norwegian Wood
(This Bird Has Flown) in 1965. He was also the first of The Beatles
to release a solo album. Admittedly, he penned fewer Beatle classics
than Lennon and McCartney. This is partially due to the
pair having had many years head start in honing their writing craft and
partially because they, along with producer George Martin, would
rarely give Harrison's songs the attention they deserved. Still,
the last half of The Beatles career together saw the release of
enduring Harrison compositions such as Here Comes The Sun,
Something, Taxman, and While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
He also enjoyed many solo hit singles after the band's breakup. |
