Eric Johnson has deservedly earned the reputation of master guitarist. For a guitar hero, he is uncharacteristically modest and low key. When he straps on the Stratocaster, he doesn’t strike the guitar hero poses that other guitarists are wont to do. He gets lost in his instrument, hardly looking up unless he has to sing. When the occasional raised arm or bent leg occurs, it is obviously an unconscious reaction to the notes that are flying from his fingers. Eschewing light shows and flashy moves, he lets the music do the talking. Long time collaborators Tommy Taylor (drums) and Chris Maresh (bass) join him onstage.
