After releasing two of his heaviest records, Brutal Planet in 2000 and Dragontown a year later, Cooper released The Eyes Of Alice Cooper in 2003. This CD consists of mostly timeless rock tracks that would have been just at home in the 1970s. Written and recorded with the musicians he’s been touring with for the last couple years, the performances captured here are very tight. Joining Cooper onstage are guitarists Ryan Roxie and Eric Dover, bassist Chuck Garric, and drummer Eric Singer.

In keeping up with the no frills attitude of the record, it was decided to take these songs on the road on what has been aptly dubbed The Bare Bones Tour. Eschewing the customary theatrical show, the concept for this tour is that of a straightforward rock show, guaranteeing that Cooper will not be hung, electrocuted, or guillotined to death.

Cooper’s daughter, Calico, does show up occasionally to torment and be tormented by her father (a role filled by her mother in the 1970s) but, for the most part, the choreography is sparse. The band entered, watched over by a massive backdrop of the titular Eyes Of Alice Cooper, and launched into, appropriately enough, Hello Hooray. Over the next hour and a half or so, 21 songs spanning the four decades of Cooper’s career would be performed.
