Fast forward to late 2004, when Maedgen was asked by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to go on the road with them to sing a few songs in their traveling show. Preservation Hall has been strict in its 40+ years about sticking strictly to jazz music within their walls but when the idea of a Jazz Fest tie in called Midnight Preserves came up, Maedgen’s connection with the organization made Bingo! a shoo-in.

Midnight Preserves was a concept in which the strictness Preservation Hall is known for would be relaxed for a few days, featuring New Orleans acts that wouldn’t normally get the chance to play the venue. Savage returned to New Orleans for the reunion and the show was booked. I speculated that either one of two things would happen: 1. the band would play a short set due to not having played together for so long or 2. the band would go all out and play for hours, at least three. It turned out to be the latter.
