"If
you want to know anything about the Beatles, ask Tony
Bramwell. He remembers more than I do." – Sir
Paul McCartney
There
have been many books written about The Beatles over the
years. Most of these tomes were authored by people who had no part in
the Beatles legend and depended completely on research,
hearsay, and imagination to compile their pages. A few, however, were
written by actual Beatle acquaintances, friends, or ex-employees.
Tony Bramwell was there from before the beginnings of
The Beatles, having been a neighborhood pal when they
were just lads running amuck in Liverpool.
A chance meeting with old chum George Harrison on the
top deck of a bus in 1960 was to change Bramwell’s
life forever. Bramwell got into that evening’s
Beatles gig for free by offering to tote Harrison’s
guitar, effectively ending his plans to work in the local Ford plant.
Bramwell would end up staying with The Beatles,
acting as roadie, gofer, promoter, trusted friend and confidante until
the breakup of the band in 1970. |
