Adam Ant’s career, and the first incarnation of the Ants lineup, began in 1976. Adam And The Antz were a huge part of the early English punk scene. The Sex Pistols’ first gig was as the Antz’ opening act! The Antz released a succession of singles and recorded a plethora of demos for various labels without achieving much success.

Dirk Wears White Sox, the first LP by the Antz was finally released in 1979. This release made it onto the English Top 30 chart but was derailed soon thereafter when Adam’s Antz were stolen by Malcolm McLaren to back Annabella Lwin, a 14-year-old Burmese girl singer in his new musical project Bow Wow Wow.
