BF:
With so many different projects in so many different styles, you are
a bit of a chameleon. What was your favorite project and which of you
songs do you personally enjoy the most? |
DY:
You always love your current project the most. Adam Strange is
great fun and the Ghoul project is great as well! Sometimes I
just get tired of being me so it’s great to be someone else! I’ve
even done radio spots as Julian Starr. |
| BF: “The World That Can’t Feel” from your upcoming A BOX AND A VEIL is quite a lovely, somber ballad. How would you describe the album as a whole? |
| DY: Half of the LP is somber like that song and the other half is pop fragments. I’ve never liked any of my studio albums. I prefer home recordings. A BOX AND A VEIL is my attempt at recording another studio LP, with another producer that I like, Johnny Indovina. |
| BF:
For an underground artist, you seem to have a number of connections inside
the music biz (such as known producers and veteran sidemen). Is that because
people in the industry have noticed your music or do you think you are naturally
more open than some independent musicians? |
| DY: I think I got attention from just being relentless, I think that’s the key. It didn’t have to be music, I think if I went out in my front yard every day, since 1984, and made finger sandwiches in a gorilla suit, eventually a crowd would form. (I hope what I’m doing music wise is more timeless than making sandwiches in a gorilla suit.) |
