BF: Which artist first motivated you to become a musician?

DY: Elton John's CAPTAIN FANTASTIC!! He was my super hero and I still have a giant collection of sunglasses!! And The Beatles' SGT. PEPPER and RUBBER SOUL. Paul taught melody, John taught me about venom, George taught me spirituality and Ringo taught me, you don’t have to be a master at your instrument, you just have to be original.

BF: I hear a possible Donovan influence on parts of SUNFIELD and some early Bowie comes through on The Cosmic Cult of Adam Strange. There are also clear nods to The Beatles and Syd Barrett on WALTER GHOUL’S LAVENDER BRIGADE.

DY: I get Donovan comparisons a lot, but the truth be known, I was compared to him before I heard him. At 15, Bowie became my god and teacher so he is all over the Adam Strange project. The Beatles and Barrett is a good call on the Walter Ghoul project! Also The Kinks on “Icycle Rainbow,” Kaleidoscope UK and Idle Race on “Mrs. Walker."

BF: Did anyone in the psychedelic revival inspire you to pursue this type of music or was it more of an exploration of early influences?
DY: I enjoy other psych revivals like THE DUKES OF STRATOSPHERE, but WALTER GHOUL’S LAVENDER BRIGADE was something I tried a long time ago. I called it “OLIVER’S LOT.” I think most pop bands dream about putting out a '60s psych LP because it was a great time for pop songs, lots of freedom! I would have mentioned The Virgineers but I’m so sick I don’t think they are a “throw back band.” They are just making the kind of music that needs to be out there.
